On 5 November 2026 Metacritic showed 96 from 84 reviews, all positive in that snapshot. Famitsu was reported as 37/40. The review count was already moving the same day, from an earlier 42.
Scores captured on 5 Nov 2026
I am printing the snapshot, not a live ticker. Nintenderos wrote “42 reviews” in a piece fetched the same day Metacritic already showed 84. I keep 84 as the later reading and mention 42 so the jump is visible. The score stayed 96 in both notes I saw.
Individual scores below come from the Nintenderos roundup except Famitsu, which GamesRadar/Yahoo reported as 9, 9, 9, and 10. I did not open every critic’s original page, so those outlet scores are one step removed. Historical Metacritic figures for the 1998 and 2011 releases were not in this pass, so those cells are empty.
What the critics are scoring is the Switch 2 remake, including the changes on the differences page. A high score does not add Master Quest.

The score of 96 appears in independent reporting by GamesRadar and VGC. Their article counts differ: GamesRadar records 42 reviews, VGC records 70, and the Wikipedia remake summary lists 84. These are separate snapshots. The current Metacritic page could not be read during this review, so this page attributes those counts rather than claiming a fresh direct reading.
