Epona

Epona is the horse at Lon Lon Ranch. As a child she is a filly you befriend with a song. As an adult you win her back from Ingo in a race.

The ranch, then the race

Zelda Wiki’s Epona page is the sequence I trust. Malon raises her at Lon Lon Ranch. Playing Epona’s Song as a child, which Malon teaches, is what makes the filly trust you. Seven years later Ingo is running the ranch and you enter two races. Win the second and Epona jumps the fence with you. I am not adding a rupee price for those races because the page I used did not print one.

Once she is yours she crosses Hyrule Field faster than walking, jumps fences, and makes the broken bridge at Gerudo Valley. The bow is the weapon the wiki says you can use while mounted. Carrots are the speed boosts. A voice credit for the horse was not in the remake cast list, so that cell stays empty. I also have no sourced sentence that says the Switch 2 remake changed the race, so I am not announcing a riding overhaul.

The song itself stays on this page only as the key to the horse. Button charts live with the other melodies. If you are still in Kokiri Forest, you cannot fetch her yet: the ranch is outside the woods, and the adult race is after the Master Sword.

Questions

How do I get the horse on 3DS?

The same ranch path: learn the song as a child, then beat Ingo as an adult. The wiki does not split a different 3DS recipe.

Can I fight with a sword on horseback?

The wiki names the bow as the mounted weapon. I am not adding other weapons.
