Death Mountain
Death Mountain is the northeast climb above Kakariko. A child gets through the gate with Zelda’s Letter. The trail leads to Goron City. The crater is the hot bowl beyond, and it is an adult problem as much as a child one.
Letter, Gorons, heat, Biggoron
The gate at the top of Kakariko is the entrance the wiki names, and the guard wants the letter Zelda gives you. Without it you are sightseeing in the village. Past the gate, the trail connects to Goron City, the crater, and a Great Fairy fountain. Dodongo’s Cavern, the second child dungeon, is on this mountain. I am not rewriting that dungeon here; the table on the dungeon page has the row.
Heat is the mechanic. The Goron Tunic, 200 rupees or a gift in Goron City, is what lets you stand in the crater and the Fire Temple. Biggoron forges the big sword at the summit, which is a trading-quest reward, not a chest on the path. Heart-piece and skulltula counts for the mountain were blank in the field sheet, so I am not printing “there are three.” As an adult the crater is open and the Volvagia story is the Fire Temple’s, already resolved or still ahead depending on your medallions.
No sourced remake edit says the gate letter was removed. Castle Town’s free camera does not apply to this trail. If you are lost in the woods, you are on the wrong side of Hyrule Field.
Plan the trail and crater as separate visits: the guarded village exit answers how to reach the mountain, while the crater adds its own heat concern. Keep the Goron Tunic route nearby when preparing an adult trip rather than treating access to Goron City as protection from the crater.

Show Zelda’s Letter to the guard above Kakariko. That letter comes from the castle meeting.
Why does it hurt?
The crater and Fire Temple deal heat damage until you wear the Goron Tunic.
